About me
Introduction
Hi, My name is Emily Feltman, and I'm currently a junior at Indiana University. I'm studying human biology! I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana where I was born and raised. I have a younger sister and a puppy named Captain! In my free time I love to be outside snowboarding, water skiing, cycling or just hanging out with friends and family! At IU I'm a part of the chapter Phi Mu where I hold a leader position role of bike team co-captain for our Little 500 team.
Life Experiences
I’ve had many different life experiences that have shaped the person I am today. One experience that changed me was when my best friend passed away from cancer. Death affects everyone, but this hit close to home for two reasons. First, we were best friends for about 11 years, and second, before she passed, we got into an argument over something silly. This made me realize life is too short and that arguments aren’t worth prolonging. With my friends today, if a disagreement comes up, I make sure both sides are heard in a civil way to prevent it from growing into a larger argument. Her passing also showed me that I want to go into patient care. I’m going to school to be a Physician’s Assistant (PA). I think it was amazing how all the healthcare workers could really change someone’s attitude and cheer them up.
The second thing that shaped me into the person I am today was when I tore my shoulder in a car crash. I had to undergo surgery, and my right arm was immobile for nine weeks. This was hard to adapt to, especially because I am right-handed. This taught me to live in the moment, not just for myself but by observing others. I was around 16 years old, and as a teenager, you think life revolves around you, but during this time, I got to watch my younger sister experience life. I watched her fail and get frustrated, but what was amazing was seeing her work through that. This taught me that watching other people do things they enjoy is one of the great things in life.
Collegiate Goals
I am currently a Human Biology major at Indiana University. My goal is to enter Physician's Assistant (PA) School, which is very challenging. As a PA, I want to work with children because my personality is geared toward helping children. To improve my chances, I am focusing on getting good grades and obtaining my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license allowing me to gain more hands-on experience in the medical field by helping people. My past jobs include teaching swimming lessons, babysitting, and working at a family-friendly restaurant featuring superheroes.
